New Tour Begins: Albany’s Wild Whale Tale

June 1, 2019 - August 31, 2019

Channel your wild!

Imagine yourself spotting on the prow of a whale chaser scanning the water to the tell-tale spume. Wind in your hair and salty spray in your face, you lean out and shade your eyes to the sun. Is your prey; to be hunted or honoured? Let us show you how the perspective has changed.

On a guided tour of the only whaling station in the world open to tourists, you will gain insight into the transformation of Albany from whaling to whale watching. At Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, the history of whaling along the southern coastline of Western Australia is presented in animation, image and relic as you are guided through this educational and historic site. Climb the Whaler chaser Cheynes IV. While on this expansive property, visit the Australia Wildlife Park. Wombats, bandicoots and possums you may have heard of, but have you met a quoll, bettong, pademelon or woylie before? The Australian Wildlife Park is also home to rare white kangaroos, flying foxes and resident koala, Frank. Visit the Regional Wildflower Garden too!

Continue your journey and exploration of the impressive coastline as you journey through the Torndirrup National Park. What tales these granite mounds could tell!

Then it’s time to savour locally caught fish + chips overlooking the harbour. Following lunch, you will experience the contemporary perspective of the value of whales. From the edge of Princess Royal Harbour you’ll leave the built environment to enter the wild, sighting the vibrant City of Albany from a different perspective.

Vibrant blues of sky and ocean fill the horizon and the astringent aromas of the bushland and salty sea air immerse you in the landscape. Feel the sea spray on your face and prepare
yourself for an extraordinary experience sighting whales as they migrate along the southern coast on board the 60FT premium vessel, Dhu Force. Accompanied by an Ocean Safari Guide
you are enriched by the understanding of whale behaviour in one of the world’s best natural deep-water channels, King George Sound, which makes it perfect for whale watching. Enjoy an Aussie afternoon tea on board.
